Fatal Complications of Extensive Drug-Resistant Typhoid Fever: A Case Report

Typhoid fever is a systemic illness that often presents with fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. There are multiple complications associated typhoid which includes intestinal perforation, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, hepatitis, anemia. In recent years, new extensively drug resistant (XDR) strain of Salmonella typhi (S. typhi) emerged, higher incidence complications, responding to azithromycin carbapenems only. this article, we report case 28-year-old Pakistani male who initially presented bloody diarrhea, complicated by massive lower bleed, leading his mortality. This case, being the first reported in Bahrain, illustrates importance considering hepatic manifestations bleeding as fatal especially setting travel Southeast Asia.
